Short update on Emily and I

Emily and I are happily living in the basement of a wonderful woman. We have been called to be the substitute youth sunday school teachers. It's pretty fun and we have a lot of great kids in our ward. I have applied for many jobs and have heard back from a few of them but nothing has really worked out. Our friends the Ricks are our age and they have really taken us under their wings and invited us to help them list t-shirts on Amazon.com. That venture has been a blast. It really amazes me what people will buy on the internet. We made a shirt that said "college" and sold like 30 of them haha. here are a few of the t-shirts we have made and sold.
This one is from "How I met your mother"

We watched a documentary about grown men who watch my little pony. We were inspired.

play off of " my milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard"

This one is from the big bang theory.

This one sold so many that they had to have them outsourced. I bet I pressed about 200 of these one day.

There is a shirt that is selling like crazy called t-rex hates pushups. This is my take on it. So far we sold 2 :)

Emily is in school now and she is taking 15 credits while being a TA for an English teacher here. With t-shirt sales, our killing this last holiday season with shirts and working at the actual warehouse where they press and cut out the vinyl, and a pretty good grant from the school this semester, we are pretty stable. Sarah, believe it or not, I could possibly be managing the men's side of the Ridge come February haha. Who would have thought huh?

We were in the market to find another car and we had a few options in front of us.
We could 1. Buy another used car.
2. Import Emily's car and register it here and then sell it here.
3. put the money back into our car and make it newer.

We went with #3. We fixed the bearings for the front tires to reduce all the noise when we went over 45 mph. It was really bad especially when we would go to and from Canada and we had to yell to each other the whole time. The mechanic told us that if we had driven it anymore, the bearings would have fused together and the whole right wheel would have seized while we were driving! While that was being worked on we cashed in one of our Christmas presents from the Ben and Devyn Ricks and got a couples massage. It was Emily's first massage and I think she will never turn down an invitation for a massage again haha.

I bought some headlights from Amazon and installed them myself which I was impressed with myself about that. We had a hiccup with a bolt breaking but after that was taken care of the headlights look great and our car is sooo quiet. We also replaced our windshield. The next on the list is to get the struts take care of and it will be pretty much brand new. Oh and we also ordered sun visor clips so the visor doesn't swing and hit us all the time haha. more pictures to come.

My New Alaska Adventure!

Here is another picture update!
Here is the Salmon Hatchery aquarium. We got to go there for free
This is in front of a bakery in downtown Juneau. They sell really good day old bread.
I went to a bonfire one night and there were no lights. The only lights on the water were from the ship. it was soo cool.
Here are some pictures from our apt. windows.
my bed is the one on the right. turns out I need a pillow, a bed cover, pillow cases, hangers etc.

 we even have a balcony
There is a bum that lives under the bridge and he really bothers us. The other day we went to the city and im pretty sure he tried to break in.

 biggest salmon caught.

 Mendenhall glacier. so beautiful
A hundred years ago this lake wasnt here because of the glacier receding.

Thats our office building that we share with a rock climbing place.
This is how tight we have to park / back in to these places.

I broke these in pretty quick having to walk an hour or so to work.
Every Wednesday we have wash crew days. Where we wash and fuel every single bus.

Alaska Adventure

Hey everyone, I am updating you all at the same time so I am very sorry that I haven’t been that up-to-date with my blog as of late. But since I am on my next adventure I thought it would be a great idea to fill ya’ll in.

First and foremost, I find it really funny that my life is going pretty close to plan from my last blog post. I have graduated from BYUI this last April, earned my commercial drivers license to work in Alaska driving tour busses for the cruise ships in Juneau. And I have found my dream girl Emily Thomas! We are engaged and planning on getting hitched in the Boise temple on August 31st at 1:00pm. I will have to dedicate a whole blog post to her so you all can know, in part, how awesome she is and who would be loving enough to have me for time and eternity. She IS real, I have picture to prove it.  J
We got engaged and 2 weeks later I was whisked away to Alaska to begin work there for a few months. It’s going to be tough to be apart with everything that we have to accomplish but I am confident that we will make this work and get to know each other on a deeper level than we would be able to otherwise.
Alaska is beautiful! Our apartment is brand spankin’ new and we have pretty much everything we need, minus Internet. Today was the day that all the drivers working in Juneau got together and visited all the places that we will be taking people to. It was a fun filled day full of quick stops and longer strolls to see the glaciers and waterfalls. That took up most the day and about 2 o’ clock I was starting to jump into a bus of my own to drive around with an experienced driver.
I wanted to get my bus skills back up to par so I asked if we could go to the most difficult places first. He was shocked because most people just wanted to go to the glacier again. Haha. The glacier was cool but I just wanted to feel comfortable doing the really tough stuff, so that when the time came, it would be just a smooth transition. He said I did great and I know the Lord was helping me a ton.

Last semester of my undergrad

I woke up yesterday staring at my ceiling and wondering what my day had in store for me. Would it be just another day of school or would it be different because I knew that it was the first day of the last semester I would be at BYU-I. The last first day of my time walking through the snow to get to my classes. I got up, took a shower, read, prayed and was out the door like normal but my view of campus and the other students on campus was anything but normal.

I could see the newer students running around and mustering the courage to ask strangers where their buildings and classes were, I saw students who were being dropped off and picked up by roommates, friends and family. Everyone has new clothes and backpacks, accessories and books for the coming school year. I saw parents helping their kids get their things into their apartments and standing in line with their recently returned RM children to make sure they knew what they were in for.

Do grandparents look at everyone like this? Is this what wisdom feels like? Is being able to see others doing things that you've done and actually say, "Been there. Done that." the process of maturity?

I'm not sure if I like this feeling quite yet or not. Each day that passes not only adds experience to my life but perspective on things that were and are and are yet to be.

schedule for the next 2 years.

(with exception  to marriage because who knows how to plan for that haha)

Graduate Undergraduate program in April
Work in Alaska from May to Sept.
Study for GRE for Grad School
Get accepted and go get my MBA

let's see how this all works out!

Update

Hey everyone coast to coast,

Here is a little update on what I am up to these days. This semester has been pretty great so far. I have found that walking to school is getting me there just as fast, if not faster than if I were driving. It snowed today about 4 inches and I am really loving walking because I know that there are a bunch of new crazy drivers on the road that don't have experience in the snow.
Tonight I have a volleyball game at 6:15 pm and then at 8:15pm I have a soccer game... in 4 inches of snow? Nope, They clear it off the fields for us. It will be a first for me to play a real game with when it snowed a couple of inches. I am really regretting that I didn't buy more long sleeved athletic clothing before I came to school. I guess I will have to run that much further.

This last weekend I was able to go to Utah for a small reunion for my HELP International team. It was so great to see everyone there and there were only a few people who couldn't make it because of distance. The people who couldn't make it in the morning came to our Friend Shelly's house later that night.

Again, it was so great to see everyone and catch up on what they have been up to. They will definitely be friends for life. It was really interesting to see them in "real life" lol I don't know if what we were doing would be considered "real" and what we are doing now is considered, "fake"? I don't know. It was just good to see everyone.

Why I need cartoons, in moderation.

Some people watch reality television and then develop nasty opinions of people based on the way the show is edited. Some people play video games 12 hours straight and don't have social skills. Some people watch nothing but political shows and are never fun to be around when they hear trigger words like, "president", "Obama" "Romney" and "election". Then there is me. Instead of choosing to spend my time wallowing in the latest Lohan story, I sit down at 5:30pm before I work at 7 and get my imagination (that was sucked away by 3 hours of International Economics homework earlier in the day) rehydrated by a little bit of pure nonsensical cartoonage. Adventure time and regular show are about all I care to watch these days, unless the classic Spongebob's are on. If I say something clever, witty, creative or interesting I give partial credit to my exposure to these shows. all in moderation of course. The end.

Change

Mormon Missionary Age Change with Hitler's Reaction

I think that this change will be a great one and that it is definitely inspired. Although I am not looking forward to the embellishment, rumors, "faith promoting" rumors, and assumptions that can't be backed up by what was actually revealed last conference.  Take what you hear with a grain of salt and make sure that you don't continue the chain of fantastical stories. BYUI is buzzing with excitement! Many many girls are getting ready to go but I have to agree with Hitler on this one. You can't just go on a whim. haha

After priesthood I got together with my old roommates and we had a blast at red robin and playing some card games at Lexi and Devan's Apartment. Lexi is the girl with the card on her head and Devan is the cool guy behind her. I haven't laughed soooo had in a long long time. Great group of friends.

AMAZING WEEKEND!!!

Brian and Hillary's wedding was so great. I got there just in time. Mom and Dad came too which surprised me and I know that Brian really appreciated them being there. The Draper temple was amazing and the newly weds looked beaming with joy all day. It's like a chapter of my life has now closed haha a mile stone has been reached with those two finally getting hitched. Mom and Dad took me to Provo and we met up with Sarah, Matt, and Tenny. We had a great dinner and after that they dropped me off to go play with my friends from Thailand.

I was laughing the whole time when mom asked me who I was going to the concert that night with. "Who are you going with?" me: "oh just a few of the girls I lived with in Thailand..." Mom:" I don't like the way that sounds..." hahaha They are all very beautiful and it was a blast catching up with them and just talking about and remembering Thailand. We went through old pictures and I think we all got a little home sick for our little town of Thaton Thailand.

The next day I spent time with my roommates and we watched Spiderwick chronicles, which, if you havent seen it yet, is one of the most intense PG movies out there. No joke. I dont have pictures of the weekend off of my phone yet so that will have to be a later day. After we left Utah we stopped in Weston Idaho to pick up our other roommate. It was a beautiful place and I was happy to get to see another part of Idaho that I had never been to before. I want to put a pin in all the places in Idaho that I have visited to put the pieces together in my mind.

I'll sign off with a poem I wrote about my room at home. If any of you have ever been in there at night, you will probably understand it a little better than those who haven't.

Stars on my ceiling

There are stars on my ceiling that glow in the dark
One constellation to shine while I’m sleeping
Each little glint, a green glowing spark
All my wishes they are quietly keeping.

There’s a picture on my wall of soldiers running fast
To possibly face their last hour
Their commander and chief at the front, not the last
Inspires me to find my inner power

There’s a guitar on my floor that quietly sings
Soothing my soul as it hums
As it’s soft lullaby floats off of its strings
my fears and sorrows overcomes

My room is my grove where I met with God
His love for me soft and appealing
And I could be under any star at home or abroad
But tonight, I’m home under my ceiling.

This is the long awaited Tiger Video!

Sorry everyone for not updating my blogs since I have been home. It's been a good transition from Thailand to Rexburg. They both have nice people, I am learning a lot, I have a job and I see an occasional elephant at DQ...haha jk. I am taking a few classes that are keeping me real busy with reading.

I was close to joining the competitive golf team here but out 4 information meetings I was the 4th guy out of a needed 24 that showed up, so needless to say golf isn't going to happen. I guess it actually works out because now I can just go whenever I get a few hours on a Saturday.

My roommates are awesome and I think its probably the cleanest apartment of guys that I have ever lived in. Studying at my apartment is much more effective than studying at the library for once. The Temple here is awesome and it was a great day getting to go to the Rexburg temple. It felt like I was coming back home.

I met up with my old Roommates and some friends from Winter Semester. The two on the right got hitched! They aren't weird after they got married which is refreshing and a lot more fun.

Good times at the Monk monastery in Mae Chan Thailand! hahah bet you didn't expect this huh?
We played FIFA 98. He kicked my trash, only, because it was on playstation and not a 360. Their room was covered in posters of soccer players and teams. It was one of my favorite connecting moments with the Monks there.

It's always good to see Robin and the Grovers when we are all in town to play some settlers of Catan.
